Migrating data from IBM Connections 4.0 or 4.5 databases to 5.0

Learn how to migrate data from your IBM® Connections 4.5 databases and update the schemas to the most recent IBM Connections 5.0 level.

To migrate your data, you can choose from two different strategies:
Side-by-side
Create new 4.0 or 4.5x databases on a separate system, update them to the most recent 4.5 level, and transfer your existing 4.0 or 4.5x data to that system. Then update the new databases to version 5.0. This strategy requires more time and resources than an in-place migration but means that you can test the update while you continue to use your older databases. For more information, refer to Migrating data side-by-side.
For IBM i, you need to save Connections 4.5 database in the source database server, and transfer the saved database files to the target database server. Then restore and update the databases to 5.0 with the scripts provided in the Connections 5.0 Wizards. For more information, refer to Migrating and updating 4.5 database schemas to 5.0 side-by-side on IBM i.
In-place
Instead of migrating your 4.0/4.5 data, update the databases to the most recent 5.0 level on the same system as the earlier version. This strategy saves time and hardware resources. For more information, refer to Migrating 4.0 or 4.5 data in-place.
For IBM i, you can update databases to 5.0 with the scripts that are provided in the Connections 5.0 Wizards. For more infomation, refer to Migrating and updating 4.5 database schemas to 5.0 in-place on IBM i.
Note: You can update databases with the IBM Connections database wizard or with the SQL scripts and Java migration utility that are provided with the product.
