Tasks for update installation

This section lists the procedures you must perform before, during, and after an update installation.

If the compiler has been installed to the default directory, /opt/ibm/, you must follow the steps outlined in the following table.

Become either the root user or a user with administrator privileges. Documentation supplied with the operating system
Download and decompress the update package.  
  • SLES and RHEL: Use the rpm utility to install the update packages.
  • Ubuntu: Use the dpkg utility to install the update packages.
Updating a basic installation
Configure the compiler. Configuring IBM XL C/C++ for Linux, V13.1.3
Confirm that the compiler packages have been successfully installed, and test the installation.
Optional: If you do not choose to create symbolic links to the compiler invocation commands during the update process, set up the environment to locate the invocation commands without the full path. Otherwise, you can skip this step. Setting up the environment for the invocation commands

If the compiler has been installed to any directory other than /opt/ibm/, you must follow the steps outlined in the following table.
