Exporting physical MDM model

Use this procedure to export the metadata of physical MDM project to InfoSphere® Information Server version 11.4. Both tailored and untailored physical project exports are supported. This process creates a single .xmi file.

About this task

The XMI file contains the organized collection of all the tables, objects, and object attributes that are imported into InfoSphere Information Server, along with mapping information.

Use the MDM Workbench Export wizard to complete this task.

Procedure

  1. In MDM Workbench, open the Export wizard by using one of these options.
    • From the Navigation perspective, right-click the physical MDM project folder that you want to export and select Export.
    • From the menu bar, select File > Export.
    • Under the Model Actions tab, select the extension point in your physical project.
  2. On the Export window, expand Master Data Management and select Metadata for IBM InfoSphere Information Server. Click Next.
  3. On the Export configuration window, select MDM Model and click Next.
  4. 4. On the next Export configuration window, complete these steps.
    1. Select Export physical MDM definitions.
    2. Select the Operational server database connection or click New to create a new connection.
    3. Provide an MDM database schema name or use the database connection default schema name. After you create the database connection, the default schema name (as specified) is automatically added as the schema name in this file. If a default schema name is not specified, then the name DB2ADMIN is used as the schema name.
    4. Under the Filter selection group, choose one of the options.
      • For an unfiltered export (export all objects and services from the schema), select Export from the workspace
      • For a filtered export (tailored project), select Export from the selected projectand select the Service tailoring project from the list.
    5. Enter a Name for your exported model. This name is used in InfoSphere Information Server to identify the model.
    6. Enter a Model identifier. The identifier can include a combination of the MDM host name, the model name, and model version if you want. Unlike the model name, the model identifier must be unique in InfoSphere Information Server and is used to identify imported models. Assets that are imported with an existing model identifier are overwritten in InfoSphere Information Server.
    7. Type the full path to the Target folder where you want to place the export files
    8. Type the name of the Model export file. This file must have a .xmi extension.
    9. If you want to export the model for use in InfoSphere Information Governance Catalog, then select Export Business Glossary File and provide a name in the Business Glossary file field. The file name must have a .xmi extension.
    10. If the .xmi file identified in the previous step exists and you want to replace it, check the Replace existing files box. If the file exists, and you do not check this box, a message prompts you to check the box or to provide a new file name.
    11. Click Finish.
