Creating selections and searches

You can create selections so that users can use saved search queries or results. You can create searches so that users can search catalogs, hierarchies, or collaboration areas.

Searching involves finding information in the PIM system. You can customize and define the searching model to support different business user requirements.

You must determine what kind of information the business users will search for, what options they will choose to search for the information, and the frequency of the search. You can design your search model accordingly. You can define saved searches so that business users can save and use the search query or criteria for future searches. Similarly, you can help business users to save the last search results. You can also help the business users to keep track of the visited items in the multi-edit screen by highlighting these visited items in a different color.

Note: Only indexed attributes are supported when using rich search from new business user interfaces.

Ensure that you know what kind of search queries and results might be used frequently by the users. You can use the saved searches to run the search queries or look at the saved results on demand.

Selections help you to save the results of a search as a query for running the search in future without specifying the search query again. The selection name is displayed under the selections module in the left pane. If you wan to run the query, click the selection name in the left pane. The query is run using the same query as the original saved query without displaying the Rich search page.

There are two types of selections:
Static selection
Stores two types of entries (1) a list of individual entries and (2) a list of categories that contain items. The items in the first list are static and the items in the second list are dynamically generated.
Dynamic selection
Stores the query and returns a dynamically generated result set with a list of items or categories based on the query.

Catalog search enables you to search for an item in a catalog. Hierarchy search helps you to search for categories within the hierarchy. Collaboration area search helps you to search for items in the item collaboration area or categories in category collaboration area.
