Enabling event logging using history manager

You can use the history manager of IBM® InfoSphere® Master Data Management Collaboration Server to log object events through Java™ APIs. You can also disable event logging for a session for all objects, all objects of a specific type, and specific events. Refer to the Javadoc for details.

  • Event logging
    Event logging is a mechanism to log events for IBM InfoSphere Master Data Management Collaboration Server objects. You need to use the history manager to log object events such as create and update to a database, and to retrieve event information.
  • Log messages in the data model
    The data model redirects certain messages to the log files. These log files help you to identify the problems in IBM InfoSphere Master Data Management Collaboration Server and take any corrective action.
  • Configuring logging for supported events of an object
    To configure the history manager to log events for supported Collaboration Server objects, you need to define a subscription policy in the history_subscriptions.xml file.
  • Subscription policies
    A subscription policy contains all the information required to start logging events for an object.
  • Consuming logged history data
    You need to use the searchHistory() method of the history manager Java API to retrieve history details of an object, a set of objects, or an object type. The retrieved details contain information about objects, a set of objects, or an object type that has changed. This information is helpful for further operations. For example, you might want to export object data only for objects that have changed after a specific timestamp. The schema for the logged history data is available in the history_schema.xsd file in the <install directory>/etc/default directory. Refer to the history manager Javadoc for all the retrieval APIs.

Example

When integrating with upstream and downstream systems, you need to identify InfoSphere MDM Collaboration Server objects that have changed to be able to send delta changes or full snapshots of the changed objects to the target systems.
