Introduction: How to create physical customizations using extension tooling

Extensions tooling is used to create hard types, or the data additions, extensions, behavior (service) extensions that physically change the database structure and the running code of the InfoSphere® MDM application.

Learning objectives

Upon completing this section of the tutorial, you will understand how to create physical customizations using extensions tooling in the MDM Workbench. For the purposes of this tutorial, you will be creating a GeneralLedger, which is basically a listing of accounts containing basic account descriptions, contact or customer details, and related information. This illustrates a real-world application of how you can use InfoSphere MDM to manage master data.

Creating physical customizations follows this basic workflow:
  • Task: create a new Development Project and create a general ledger to add to it. Time required: about 5 minutes.
  • Task: create definitions for the addition and add attributes. Time required: about 10 minutes.
  • Task: create a code table for the terms of payment for the general ledger. Time required: about 7 minutes.
  • Task: create a new type code attribute for the terms of payment for the general ledger. Time required: about 3 minutes.
  • Task: create a new data extension for Person. Time required: about 3 minutes.
  • Task: generate the implementation of the physical customizations. Time required: about 2 minutes.
  • Task: explore the results of the implementation and refine the settings. Time required: about 5 minutes
  • Task: deploy and test the changes. Time required: about 5 minutes
It should take no more than 60 minutes to finish all of the tasks for this tutorial.
