Installing fix packs with native scripts

Run the provided script from the command line to apply fix packs or to install service stream enhancements on AIX, Linux, and Solaris systems.

Before you begin

Read the information about the fix pack strategy.

Procedure

  1. Download the fix pack from http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21496581#v631.
  2. Extract the fix archive to a directory with adequate free space. Details about the contents of the fix pack, including directory and file names are provided in the README file that is included with the fix pack.
  3. Stop all client or server processes that are associated with IBM Security Directory Server. The daemon process set includes the directory server, the administration server, the proxy server (if used), and any custom LDAP applications. Programs and libraries cannot be replaced while they are in use. If tracing is enabled, run ldtrc off to turn it off. For information about how to stop the directory server instances and administration processes, see topics under the Basic server administration tasks in the IBM Security Directory Server documentation.
  4. In the command line, change directory to the folder where you extracted the fix archive.
  5. Run the following command as root:
    idsinstall -u -f
The installation program installs updates to the components that are already installed on your system.
  6. Verify your installation.
    1. The installation program displays a message that indicates whether the installation was successful. Check the installation log in /tmp/idsinstall_timestamp.
    2. If the installation was not successful or you receive a message that not all packages were installed, correct the errors that are shown in the log, for example, insufficient disk space. Then, run the installation program again and ensure that all packages are installed successfully.
    3. Check the version number of the packages to verify that they are all at the correct level. For instructions, see Querying the IBM Security Directory Server packages.
