Upgrading the embedded WebSphere Application Server to a full installation of WebSphere Application Server

The embedded version of IBM® WebSphere® Application Server that is packaged with IBM Rational® Asset Manager is a lightweight version of the application server. You might use this version in small environments or for testing. If you have a larger environment, you can upgrade to full version of WebSphere Application Server to gain the extended functionality of the server. To upgrade, you capture the settings for the packaged embedded version of WebSphere Application Server. Then, you enter those settings during the server setup of the full version of WebSphere Application Server.

Before you begin

If you are using IBM DB2® Version 9.5, upgrade to DB2 Version 9.7. For information on upgrading DB2, see Upgrading to DB2 Version 9.7.

Capture the settings from the installed embedded WebSphere Application Server:

  1. Start the Rational Asset Manager server that runs on the embedded WebSphere Application Server.
  2. In a web browser, type the URL of the server setup application. For example: http://localhost:13080/ram.setup
  3. Click Next until you reach the Summary page, and then verify that the current installation has no issues. If issues exist, correct them before you continue with the server setup.
  4. Click the Deployment link to return to the beginning of the setup, and then click Previous to return to the Introduction page.
  5. Back up the configuration report.
    1. Click Tools > View configuration report.
    2. Right-click the page and save the file locally.
    3. Close the configuration report.
  6. In the server setup application, review each page and note the values that you defined for the embedded WebSphere Application Server installation. Either write the selections or take screen captures of them. The following table shows the selections to note on each page.

Procedure

Install Rational Asset Manager on the full WebSphere Application Server and enter the values from the embedded WebSphere Application Server installation:

  1. Stop the embedded WebSphere Application Server.
  2. From the Rational Asset Manager launchpad, click onOptional Programs . Click on the WebSphere Application Server downloads to download the full version of install the full version of WebSphere Application Server and its fix pack.
  3. Follow the installation guide to install WebSphere Application Server and its fix pack
  4. When the installation is complete, start WebSphere Application Server.
  5. Return to the launchpad and click Install Rational Asset Manager server to install Rational Asset Manager on the full version of WebSphere Application Server.
  6. Select the Migration to new application server check box. This option copies an archive file of Rational Team Concert Version 3.0 to the installation directory of the current application server. The archive file, which must be extracted manually, is required later in the migration process.
  7. Launch the Rational Asset Manager server setup.
  8. In the setup details, enter the values that you captured from the embedded WebSphere Application Server installation.
    Important:
    • On the "Introduction" page: For the Rational Team Concert server, you must select the same value that you entered for the embedded WebSphere Application Server. Even if you created a server for the embedded WebSphere Application Server, you must create a Rational Team Concert server for the full installation of WebSphere Application Server.

If you chose to work with an existing Rational Team Concert server when prompted to install Rational Team Concert, then you must choose that option again now. Your external Rational Team Concert server needs to be running and the server setup application will not install a new instance of Rational Team Concert.

    • On the "Part 1: Create or Locate Databases for Rational Asset Manager" page, under Create or Locate Databases, select You need to create the RTC's JTS database.
    • On the "Migrate Rational Team Concert databases" page, specify the location of the Rational Team Concert 2.0 files on the server. Typically, this is in the following directory: Rational_Asset_Manager_install_location/ram/ewas/profiles/profile1/config/cells/cell_name/RTC/server1/v2002/jazz/server.
    • Do not accept the default value supplied for the location of the Rational Team Concert 3.0 files on the server. You must extract the RTC-Server_3013.zip file, which IBM Installation Manager writes to the following directory: new_Rational_Asset_Manager_install_location/ram/apps/was/. On the "Migrate Rational Team Concert databases" page, edit the field that contains the location of the extracted Rational Team Concert 3.0 files. For example, extract the RTC-Server_3013.zip file to the C:\RTC_3013 directory, and then specify C:/RTC_3013/jazz/server for the location of the extracted files.
    • On the "Configure Paths for Rational Asset Manager" page: The port for the server address changes to 9080. For example: http://host:9080
    • On the "Configure Lifecycle management settings" page, under Configure Paths for Rational Team Concert: The Rational Team Concert server addresses change to https://host:9443/ramccm and https://host:9443/ramjts, as shown in the recommended values.
  9. Complete the server setup and restart the server. After the server restarts, the "Configure Lifecycle management settings" page is displayed.
  10. On the "Configure Lifecycle management settings" page, select Configure server.
  11. Verify that no errors are in the summary.
  12. Select Start using Rational Asset Manager. The "Migration Required" page is displayed.
  13. Click Migrate.
