Coexistence support in Version 10.1 (z/OS) and Version 9.7 Fix Pack 3 (Linux, UNIX, Windows)

The Q Capture and Q Apply programs support full interoperability between Version 10.1 on z/OS®, Version 9.7 Fix Pack 3 on Linux, UNIX, and Windows, Version 9.7, Version 9.5, and Version 9.1.

After you install Version 10.1 or Version 9.7 Fix Pack 3 on the system where Q Capture runs, you migrate the Q Capture control tables to Version 10.1 or Version 9.7 Fix Pack 3. You might need to change the value of the COMPATIBILITY column in the IBMQREP_CAPPARMS table depending on the version of your Q Apply program or programs. Q Capture checks this column to determine the level of messages to send.

Important: The compatibility level of the Q Capture server must be lower than or at the same level as the architecture level of the consuming Q Apply program's control tables.

New functions that are introduced in Version 10.1 or Version 9.7 Fix Pack 3 are not enabled until both the Q Capture and Q Apply control tables are migrated to Version 10.1 or Version 9.7 Fix Pack 3.

Table 1 shows relationships between Version 9 and Version 10.1 replication programs and the effect of the compatibility parameter.

Table 1. Required settings for COMPATIBILITY column in IBMQREP_CAPPARMS table to enable coexistence between different versions. Unless specified, versions apply to both z/OS and Linux, UNIX, and Windows.

ASNCLP and Replication Center

The replication administration tools that are found in the DB2® Version 9.7 Fix Pack 3 administration client on Linux, UNIX, and Windows can be used to administer any combination of Q Capture and Q Apply servers at Version 10.1 on z/OS, Version 9.7 Fix Pack 3 on Linux, UNIX, and Windows, Version 9.5, and Version 9.1. The Version 9.7 Fix Pack 3 administration client creates control tables on z/OS at the 100Z architecture level. On Linux, UNIX, and Windows the client can create control tables at any version level.

Note: For Replication Server Version 10.1 on z/OS, you must create the Q Capture control tables with an administration client at Version 9.7 Fix Pack 3 or later.

Table 2 shows the level of control tables that are created by the ASNCLP program and Replication Center on different server levels as indicated by the value of the ARCH_LEVEL column in the IBMQREP_CAPPARMS table.

*On Linux, UNIX, and Windows when the ASNCLP and Replication Center are at Version 9.7 Fix Pack 2 and above, you can create control tables at a newer version than the DB2 subsystem or database. For example, with an administration client at Version 9.7 Fix Pack 3 and a Version 9.5 DB2, you can create control tables at V9.7 Fix Pack 3, V9.7, or V9.5 levels.
