z/VM prerequisites

View the prerequisites for using IBM Cloud Manager with OpenStack with z/VM.

IBM Cloud Manager with OpenStack is compatible with z/VM version 6.3, which is a comprehensive virtualization management tool for the z Systems® platform.

IBM Cloud Manager with OpenStack for z Systems provides the following capabilities:
  • Support for IBM z Systems hosts that are managed by Extreme Cloud Administration Toolkit.
  • Support for storage area networks.
  • Support for multiple virtual machines on each host.
  • Support for configuring a z/VM node as a compute node.
Note: For information about deploying the z/VM appliance to manage from the z/VM environment, see z/VM prerequisites in the IBM Cloud Manager with OpenStack, version 4.2 information. Currently the z/VM appliance is only available for IBM Cloud Manager with OpenStack, version 4.2.

Ensure that z/VM 6.3 and Extreme Cloud Administration Toolkit (xCAT) are configured correctly and working well.
Note: If you are using IBM Cloud Manager with OpenStack to manage a z/VM hypervisor, you must follow the z/VM service guide and apply z/VM APAR VM65753 before you install the latest fix pack.
