Backup Servers

Backup 1
Backup 2
Timeout if no data received at initialization
Connect to last host without timeout

Backup servers are optional. You do not have to specify a backup server.

Host On-Demand uses backup servers in the event of a failure to connect with the main server either:

In either of these situations, Host On-Demand will always try connecting with servers in the following order:
  1. The main server (the server specified in the Destination Address field of the Connection panel).
  2. Backup 1, if the attempt to connect with the main server fails and Backup 1 is specified.
  3. Backup 2, if the attempt to connect with Backup 1 fails and Backup 2 is specified.
Failure to connect with a particular server may occur because the server does not exist, because the server is unreachable, or because the server is not answering.

Note
  • Busy or in use conditions. If Host On-Demand reaches a host which is busy or which responds that the specified LU Name (3270) or Workstation ID (5250) is in use, then Host On-Demand will disconnect the session and not try to connect with the next backup server.
  • Fields disabled. When Enable SLP is Yes all the fields on this panel are disabled.
  • Backup servers are available with the following session types: 3270 Display, 3270 Printer, 5250 Display, 5250 Printer, CICS Gateway, and VT Display.

    Backup 1

If you see asterisks (*****) in the following fields, the administrator has configured the session to hide those values.

    Destination Address
The server name (such as myserver.xxx.xxx.com) or IP address (such as 9.x.x.x).
    Destination Port
Enter the port on the server to which you wish to connect (such as 23).
    LU Pool Name
Enter the LU or pool name (used only for 3270 Display sessions and 3270 Printer sessions).

    Backup 2

If you see asterisks (*****) in the following fields, the administrator has configured the session to hide those values.

    Destination Address
The server name (such as myserver.xxx.xxx.com) or IP address (such as 9.x.x.x).
    Destination Port
Enter the port on the server to which you wish to connect (such as 23).
    LU Pool Name
Enter the LU or pool name (used only for 3270 Display sessions and 3270 Printer sessions).

Timeout if no data received at initialization

Use this option to specify whether or not to time out the current session and attempt to connect to the next backup server in the event that the client successfully connects to the socket but the expected data is not received from the host. The number of seconds that the Host On-Demand client will wait is the value that you specify on the Connection > Advanced window of session properties in the Connection Timeout (seconds) field. If this value is the default (0), the client will not time out. This option is available for 3270 or 5250 display and 3270 print sessions only.

    The default value is No.

Connect to last host without timeout

Use this option to specify whether or not to connect to the last configured host without timing out, even if you specified a timeout value other than the default (0) on the Connection > Advanced window of session properties in the Connection Timeout (seconds) field.

    The default value is Yes.
