Database tuning environment

Policy-based database monitoring and tuning is achieved by using a set of IMS Tools products.

This topic summarizes the tools and components that are used in policy-based database monitoring and tuning.

To achieve policy-based database monitoring and tuning of IMS databases, you must install and configure Tools Base. You must also install and configure one of the following IMS solution packs:

  • IMS Database Solution Pack
  • Start of changeIMS Database Utility SolutionEnd of change
  • IMS Fast Path Solution Pack

Tools Base

You must install Tools Base and then configure the following components of Tools Base:

IMS Tools Knowledge Base
IMS Tools Knowledge Base (IMS Tools KB) functions as the server for the report repository, sensor data repository, and policy repository. IMS Tools KB provides an ISPF user interface to set up the IMS Tools KB environment and to manage repositories and reports.
Policy Services
Policy Services detects database exceptions based on user-defined policies. Policy Services provides an ISPF user interface to define and manage policies, rules, and notification lists.
Autonomics Director
Autonomics Director schedules sensor data collection and policy evaluations. A policy evaluation can detect exceptions and provide recommended user actions. Autonomics Director provides an ISPF user interface to schedule sensor data collection and policy evaluations and to view the results of policy evaluations.
Administration Console
Administration Console displays key statistics and information about database resources in an intuitive graphical web interface.
Note: If you plan to use Management Console instead of Administration Console, you do not need to configure Administration Console.

Management Console

IBM® Management Console for IMS and DB2® for z/OS® (also referred to as Management Console) displays key statistics and information about database resources in an intuitive graphical web interface.

Management Console replaces Tools Base Administration Console. Either install and configure Management Console or Administration Console.
