You need specific hardware, software, rack, and tool requirements
to install and configure IBM® WebSphere® DataPower® XC10 Appliance.
Use this set of prerequisites to plan for installation, configuration,
and use of IBM WebSphere DataPower XC10 Appliance.

To set up and administer the
appliance, you need network administration skills.
Information required
Collect the following
data to define your
DataPower XC10
Appliance base
configuration.
- Whether you are using the 1 gigabit or 10 gigabit Ethernet ports
for your data grid. You must use either all 1 gigabit ports or all
10 gigabit ports. Connect the management port at MGMT0.
- The IP address and subnet mask for the Ethernet interface for
appliance management access (MGMT).
- The IP address of the default gateways (routers) that supports
the subnets for the Ethernet interfaces.
- The IP address of the Domain Name System (DNS) server. Configure
the DNS server for both forward and reverse look ups.
- Communication parameters for serial interface: 9600.8.n.1 (9600
baud, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit).
- Mail server information (to set up email notifications).
- (Optional) The IP addresses and subnet mask for Ethernet interfaces
for appliance service access (ETH0, ETH1, and ETH2).
Rack requirements
To install the
DataPower XC10
Appliance, you need a standard
19 inch (48.26 cm) rack with a minimum of 25 inches (63.5 cm) of depth
that meets the following criteria:
- Provides rear mounting columns
- Supports both front and rear mounting
- Provides rear mounting columns
- Supports both front and rear mounting
Ensure that the following required space in and around
the rack is available:
- At least 30 inches (76.20 cm) of free space behind the rack
- At least 2 inches (5.1 cm) above and below the appliance
- Sufficient free space in the front for Ethernet and any serial
console cables
The ambient temperature in the environment in which the
appliance is to be installed must not exceed 104° F (40° C).
Tools and supplies
To install the
DataPower XC10
Appliance, gather the following
supplies:
- A medium Phillips screwdriver
- Two (2) standard rack screws (provided with appliance)
- One to four (1-4) network cables
- Serial cable or PL-2303 USB-to-serial cable
Important: If
you are using the PL-2303 USB-to-serial cable, download and install
a driver for the cable before proceeding.
Note: Do not discard
the cables after installing the appliance. You might need it for problem
determination or maintenance in the future.
- Serial console with a male DB9 connector. This console can be
a dedicated hardware device, such as a VT100-style console, or a PC
running an emulator, such as HyperTerminal or Minicom.
