Scenarios for installing with the Installation Manager GUI
There are a number of typical scenarios that you can follow
when installing software with the IBM® Installation
Manager GUI.
Depending on if IBM Installation Manager is already installed and how you access the product installation files, you typically use one of the following scenarios to install software with the IBM Installation Manager GUI.
- If you have the physical installation media, then start your installation from the setup disk and launchpad. For more information, see Installing from the Setup disk.
- If you have access to IBM Passport Advantage® Online website and IBM installation Manager is not installed, you can start installing the software by clicking Install using IBM Installation Manager on the IBM Passport Advantage Online website.
- If you have access to IBM Passport Advantage Online and IBM Installation Manager is installed, you can configure Installation Manager to connect to IBM Passport Advantage Online and install directly from the IBM repositories.
- If you have the electronic installation files (downloaded from IBM Passport Advantage Online), you can start your installation from the setup disk and launchpad.
- If IBM Installation Manager is installed and the installation repositories are on a remote repository (for example, an HTTP server at your company), you can configure Installation Manager to connect to the repository. For more information, see Specifying the repository.
Clicking Install using IBM Installation Manager on the Passport Advantage website
If
you are entitled to log on to the IBM Passport Advantage Online
website, you can start the installation process by clicking Install
using IBM Installation Manager link in the eAssembly for IBM Rational® Application Developer
for WebSphere® Software V9.1.
If you use this method:
- The required version of IBM Installation Manager is downloaded and installed on your computer.
- Installation Manager starts automatically configured to connect to Passport Advantage.
To use this method to install software:
- Log on to IBM Passport Advantage website by using an entitled IBM ID.
- When you locate the IBM Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software V9.1 Multiplatform Multilingual eAssembly (Core), click Install using IBM Installation Manager.
- Select the platform for IBM Installation
Manager, and then click Download Now. The Download
Director applet starts and downloads the installation files for Installation
Manager.Tip: Note the name of the file that is downloaded.
- For Windows, a .exe file is downloaded
- For Linux, a compressed file is downloaded.
- When the download completes:
- For Windows:
In Download Director, click Launch. If you
close Download Director without clicking Launch, open Windows Explorer and browse to the location
where you downloaded the .exe file and run it.
The Installation program starts, extracts the installation files for IBM Installation Manager, and starts Installation Manager in administrator mode.
- For Linux:
- In a command line, browse to the location where you downloaded the Installation Manager compressed file.
- Extract the contents of the compressed file. Ensure that preserve the directory structure of the contents.
- To install as an administrator:./install To install as a non-administrator: ./userinst. Installation Manager starts.
- For Windows:
In Download Director, click Launch. If you
close Download Director without clicking Launch, open Windows Explorer and browse to the location
where you downloaded the .exe file and run it.
- When prompted, enter your IBM ID user name and password.
- Installation Manager shows all the software that you are entitled to.
Note: Only entitled software that can be installed by Installation
Manager is displayed. Software that is not installed by Installation
Manager must be downloaded from the IBM Passport Advantage website.

Configure Installation Manager to install software directly from IBM Passport Advantage
If IBM Installation Manager is installed
on your computer, then you can configure it to download and install
software directly from IBM Passport Advantage.
Note: If
your version of IBM Installation
Manager does need meet the requirements to install the product, then
you must update it. By default, updates for Installation Manager are
automatically detected.
To configure Installation Manager
to connect to IBM Passport Advantage:
- Start Installation Manager.
- Click .
- Click Passport Advantage.
- Select Connect to Passport Advantage.
- When prompted, enter your IBM ID credentials.
- Click OK.
When you install software (click Install on
the main Installation Manager interface), the software that you are
entitled to install is displayed.
Note: Only the entitled software
that can be installed by Installation Manager is displayed. Software
not installed by Installation Manager must be downloaded from the IBM Passport Advantage website. For

Downloading software from IBM Passport Advantage
If you have access to the IBM Passport Advantage website, then you can download the installation files for the software that you want to install to your computer.
- Ensure that you download all the parts for the software that you want to install. For more information, see Creating an installable image from installation files downloaded from Passport Advantage.
- Ensure that you download the setup disk.
- Ensure that you correctly extract the contents of the downloaded files to create the software repository; otherwise, you installation cannot install. For more information, see Creating an installable image from installation files downloaded from Passport Advantage
- Some software might not be installed by Installation Manager. For more information, see Planning to install optional software
