Extracting and verifying electronic images for Rational Application Developer

If you download the installation files from IBM® Passport Advantage®, you must correctly extract the contents of the compressed files before you can install the software.

Before you begin

Review the Passport Advantage Parts List at http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg24032379. This web page describes all the parts that you can download for the current version of the product from IBM Passport Advantage.
Review the topic for planning to install supporting software. Typically, the following software is installed on the developer’s computer:
- Rational® Application Developer
- WebSphere® Application Server Test Environments
- Rational Desktop Connection Toolkit for Cloud Environments
- WebSphere Portal Server
- CICS® Transaction Gateway
- IBM Worklight Studio
Download the installation files from the Passport Advantage website.
Tip: If possible, select the option to use the IBM Download Director applet to download the software. The Download Director applet automatically verifies the completeness of each file that it processes.
Tip: If you use Download Director to download the software, then you can also use it to extract the contents of all the compressed files that you downloaded in the session. If you want to use Download Director to extract the contents of the compressed files downloaded in a session:
- Create a directory (for example, create C:\temp\RAD_INSTALL_IMAGE).
- Extract the contents of the following items into the new directory:
  - Rational Application Developer
  - WebSphere Application Server Test Environments
  - Rational Desktop Connection Toolkit for Cloud Environments
  Extract all of the compressed files for these software items to this directory.
- Create a directory and the extract the contents of the WebSphere Portal Server compressed files into that directory.
- Create a directory and the extract the contents of the CICS Transaction Gateway compressed files into that directory.

About this task

Note: By default, the extraction tool included in Windows operating systems extracts the contents of compressed files to <current directory of the compressed file>/<name of compressed file>. (For example, the contents of C:\temp\myfile.zip are extracted into C:\temp\myfile.) Do not use this default setting to extract the contents of each compressed file. Instead, follow the steps in this topic.
When you extract the contents of the compressed files, ensure that you preserve the directory structure of the extracted contents.

Procedure

Extract the installation files for the following software:

Rational Application Developer
WebSphere Application Server Test Environments
Rational Desktop Connection Toolkit for Cloud Environments

To extract the installation files:

Create a directory; for example, create a directory C:\temp\RAD_INSTALL_IMAGE.
Extract the contents of the file named similar to RAD_WS_version_Master.zip into the directory that you created in the previous step. Following the previous example, you now have the directory C:\temp\RAD_INSTALL_IMAGE\RAD_SETUP
Extract the contents of the first part of Rational Application Developer (for example, RAD_WS_version_1.zip) to the same directory. Following the previous example, you now have the directory C:\temp\RAD_INSTALL_IMAGE\RAD\disk1.
Continue extracting the remaining parts for Rational Application Developer. Each part that you extract creates a new "disk" subdirectory in the RAD directory.
Optional: If you downloaded any WebSphere Application Server Test Environment software (versions 8.5, 8.0 or 7.0) or Rational Desktop Connection Toolkit for Cloud Environments, extract the contents of each of these files into the same directory that you extracted the Rational Application Developer files.
Tip: For WebSphere Application Server Test Environment software version 7.0.x, there are separate installation files for the 32-bit and 64-bit editions.
Optional: If you downloaded WebSphere Application Server Test Environment software (version 8.5), which has a default JDK 1.6, and you want JDK 1.7, then download IBM WebSphere SDK Java Technology Edition V7.0 Multiplatform, Multilingual for WebSphere Application Server V8.5. Extract the contents of each of these files into the same directory that you extracted the Rational Application Developer files.

When you are finish extracting the contents of the files, the directory that you created contains the following subdirectories:

Extract the installation files for WebSphere Portal Server:
1. Create a directory; for example, create a directory WPS_INSTALL_IMAGE.
2. Extract the contents of each Portal file to the directory that you created in the previous step.
Extract the installation files for CICS Transaction Gateway:
1. Create a directory into which you extract the contents of the CICS Transaction Gateway files. For example, create a directory CTG_INSTALL_IMAGE.
2. Extract the contents of each Portal file to the directory that you created in the previous step.
Extract the contents of supporting software to other computers. For each software item, create a directory in which to extract the contents of the compressed files. If a software item has multiple parts, extract all parts to the same parent directory.
Note: The following software can be installed from the launchpad, which is included in the RAD_SETUP directory:
- IBM Rational Application Developer Code Coverage Extension
- IBM Rational Remote Agent Controller
- Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software Build
- Rational Application Developer Extension for Rational Team Concert™ with Jazz™ Team Server
If you want to use the launchpad to install this software, then you must either copy the RAD_SETUP directory to the computer where you are installing the software, or download and extract the file named similar to RAD_WS_version_Master.zip to the target computer.
