Creating an extension model file for rule artifacts

You use extension model files to create custom rule properties and rule types.

About this task

You can redefine the rule model completely, or extend or modify the default extension model.

Rule model extensions are common to Rule Designer and Decision Center so you can define an extension once for both environments. Rule Designer provides a wizard and a Rule Model Extension Editor to help you create or modify an extension model file for rule artifacts.

Procedure

To create an extension model file for rule artifacts:

  1. In the Rule Explorer view, select the rule project and, on the File menu, click New  > Other.
  2. In the New wizard, select Rule Designer > Rule Model Extension  > Extension Model and then click Next.
  3. On the Extension Model page, select where you want to store the extension model file.
  4. Specify whether you want to redefine the rule model completely, or extend or modify it:
    • To redefine the rule model, clear the Fill with default extension content box.

    • To extend or modify the default extension model, keep this box selected.

  5. Click Finish.

The Rule Explorer displays a .brmx file and the Rule Model Extension Editor opens.
