Overview: IBM ODM patterns on PureApplication System or IBM Workload Deployer

IBM® Operational Decision Manager (IBM ODM) provides virtual system patterns to run the product in a private cloud. You can use IBM PureApplication System or IBM Workload Deployer to host IBM ODM patterns and images.

IBM Operational Decision Manager Pattern V8.0.1 provides the same capabilities that are delivered in IBM Operational Decision Manager V8.0.1. It contains the components that are necessary to manage business rules and events in a private cloud. Use it to create, deploy, and manage IBM Operational Decision Manager runtime environments with IBM PureApplication System, V1.0.0.1 and later fix packs, or IBM Workload Deployer, V3.1.0.7 and later fix packs.

Preoptimized patterns help you to set up complex and highly available IBM ODM runtime environments. IBM Operational Decision Manager V8.0.1 patterns are available in a package that your cloud administrator can download from Passport Advantage. The system administrator can then load IBM ODM patterns to PureApplication System or IBM Workload Deployer by using the installer tool that is provided in the pattern package, and provide access for users to work with the patterns. Authorized users can then create, deploy, and manage IBM ODM runtime environments and applications in a private cloud.

IBM ODM in a private cloud

IBM ODM system virtual images and patterns are hosted on IBM PureApplication System or IBM Workload Deployer. PureApplication System and IBM Workload Deployer provide the framework to deploy IBM ODM patterns into a private cloud.

The IBM ODM virtual image is an Open Virtualization Format (OVF) package that contains the operating system and IBM ODM runtime environment. Each image contains building blocks called parts that are deployed to a runtime environment. After the deployment, the parts become virtual machines with URLs that allow the user to access virtual machine instances like Decision Server and Decision Center.
Restriction: Although Rule Designer and Event Designer are packaged in the ODM pattern parts, they are not used in the runtime environment and there are no menu shortcuts to access them. Therefore, install them locally on your computer.

IBM ODM images and patterns

The following pattern packages are available for download from Passport Advantage:
The following predefined patterns are provided:
  • ODM Clustered Pattern 8.0.1
  • ODM Clustered Decision Server Pattern 8.0.1

Patterns that are deployed into the cloud become virtual systems. Virtual systems can be used for development, testing, or other purposes. Virtual systems are composed of one or more virtual machines that contain an operating system and any number of applications. Each virtual machine is configured as one part of a pattern. Each part represents a set of IBM ODM functions.

The patterns can be deployed on IBM PureApplication System or IBM Workload Deployer.

The virtual machines can run Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 64-bit or AIX®.
