Controlling how content is stored
To optimize storage space, suppress content duplication and use content compression. Also, to enhance security, encrypt the content.
About this task
- Content compression
Content that is uploaded to a storage area is compressed if content compression has been enabled for the storage area and if the content can be compressed below the content compression threshold that is specified for the storage area. - Content duplication suppression
The suppression of duplicate content potentially reduces the storage space that is required to store content. Content Platform Engine suppresses duplicate content by checking the existing content before adding new content to the storage area. If identical content exists, the new content is not stored separately from the existing content. If no identical content exists, the new content is added in the normal manner. An example of when suppressing duplicate content might help reduce the required storage space is when archiving email messages to a Content Platform Engine object store. - Content encryption
Content encryption helps to protect the confidentiality of content that you add to a storage area in case the content is accessed outside of FileNet® P8. This encryption pertains only to the storage of content in the storage area: when Content Platform Engine retrieves and passes content to a client in response to a client request, the content is automatically decrypted. - Compressing the content
Compress content to potentially reduce the storage space that is required to store content. - Suppressing duplicate content elements
Suppress duplicate content to potentially reduce the storage space that is required to store content. - Encrypting content
Encrypt the new content for a storage area to help protect the confidentiality of the content in case the content is accessed outside of FileNet P8. You can also force the generation of a new encryption key at any time. You might want a new key as a precautionary measure or when you suspect that the security of the current key has been compromised.
