IBM System Usage Reporter installation and configuration

The IBM System Usage Reporter is installed automatically when you install the IBM® System Dashboard for Enterprise Content Management. The 5.0 release of Usage Collector and Reporter uses Derby for its internal database. Previous releases used the Hyper Structured Query Language Database (HSQLDB). With this change, you must retain the existing version of the Usage Reporter and Collector software to be able to read your existing database. You need to go through the database creation step again with the new software the first time that the Reporter is used. Thereafter, the 5.0 software is functionally identical, but does not read or report data that is collected before the installation of 5.0.

The System Usage Reporter has the following components:

• The Reporter component is the user interface.
• The Collector component gathers data from host systems; identified by an XML file. The gathered data is then used by the Reporter component.
• The Listener component receives a stream of data from the host systems and passively waits for a connection from the Collector.

  Since the System Usage Reporter is installed automatically with the IBM System Dashboard for Enterprise Content Management, it also uses the same Listeners as the Dashboard.
