Generating thumbnails by creating a job sweep

Use the New Thumbnail Generation Job wizard to create a thumbnail generation job sweep. A thumbnail generation job creates a small bitmap image of the first page of objects in this object store.

About this task

Important: The thumbnail generation process runs outside of the Content Platform Engine Java™ virtual machine (JVM) and uses additional memory. For information about tuning the thumbnail generation process, see Tuning IBM® FileNet® P8 Content Platform Engine thumbnail performance.

Procedure

To create a thumbnail generation sweep job:

  1. Start the New Thumbnail Generation Job wizard in the administration console:
    1. In the domain navigation pane, select the object store.
    2. In the object store navigation pane, select the Sweep Management > Job Sweeps > Thumbnail Generation Jobs folder.
    3. Click New.
  2. Optional: Select the Enabled property to enable the sweep. (The sweep cannot run unless it is enabled.) You might want to enable the sweep later, however, because some sweep properties can be set only after sweep creation. In particular, the property that affects sweep performance by determining when sweep conditions are evaluated can be set only after sweep creation.
  3. Complete the New wizard.

What to do next

Optimizing sweep performance by changing when filter conditions are evaluated
