IBM FileNet P8, Version 5.2

Exporting and importing (Enterprise Manager only)

This section describes how to use Enterprise Manager to export Content Platform Engine objects in an XML format, and then import those objects into an object store in the same or a different FileNet® P8 domain.

For FileNet P8 application deployment, it is recommended that you use FileNet Deployment Manager because of its enhanced export, convert, analyze, and import operations. The use of Enterprise Manager or its related command-line tool to export or import is deprecated. However, there are cases in which the use of these operations is still necessary:

As part of the deployment operation, you must first create an export manifest. The use of Enterprise Manager to create an export manifest is deprecated. Use FileNet Deployment Manager instead to create an export manifest. However, there is one case in which Enterprise Manager is still necessary. If you need to add the results of an Enterprise Manager query to an export manifest, you must use Enterprise Manager to create that export manifest. For this case only, use Enterprise Manager and FileNet Deployment Manager as follows:

  1. Enterprise Manager: Add objects to an export manifest and save to a file.
  2. FileNet Deployment Manager: Optionally modify the export manifest.
  3. FileNet Deployment Manager: Export the objects using the export manifest file.
  4. FileNet Deployment Manager: Convert the exported objects.
  5. FileNet Deployment Manager: Analyze the converted objects.
  6. FileNet Deployment Manager: Import the converted objects.
