A location template defines virtual machine attributes such as operating system image
type, data center location, and host type for the agent virtual machines to be hosted in the cloud.
After creating location templates, when creating a cloud schedule, you associate the location
templates with the schedule and specify the number of agent virtual machines to use to run the
schedule.
Before you begin
- Get an IBM ID and register the ID in the IBM SmartCloud Exchange account.
About this task
If you must run the cloud schedule with virtual testers in geographically diverse
locations, such as a user group in the Dallas data center with only dedicated hypervisors and
another user group in the Paris data center with only shared hypervisors, you can create multiple
location templates and associate them with one cloud schedule. When selecting data centers for agent
virtual machines, remember that the distance between a data center and the location of your
application and the number of hops it takes to reach the data center can make a difference to
response times.
The choice of a host type can also determine response time. In a shared
hypervisor, the underlying hardware could be shared with many other guest operating systems so it is
important to add an auditing user group to ensure that response times are accurate. In a dedicated
hypervisor, the hardware is not shared with other operating systems. A bare metal computer means a
fully dedicated piece of hardware. The choice of a host type effects the cost of running the
schedule in the cloud.
Procedure
- Click
- Specify a name for the location template. The
template is created.
- To connect to the cloud manager, click Connect.
- If the connection is successful, specify the location of data center, operating system image
type, and host type for the agent virtual machines. If the connection fails, contact product support.
- Save the location template.
What to do next
You can create a cloud schedule and associate the location template to the
schedule.
