Open Platform Communications (OPC) connectivity

Use the features of IBM® Integration Bus Manufacturing Pack, which are compliant with Open Platform Communications (OPC), to integrate your data sources and IBM Integration Bus applications.

OPC is a set of standards that facilitates communication of data between OPC Servers, and IBM Integration Bus applications (OPC clients). Sensors in data sources collect data and send it to an OPC Server. In your OPC client, you specify the data that you want to receive from the OPC Server. The OPC Server sends that data to an OPC client, where you can use that data.

IBM Integration Bus Manufacturing Pack provides an OPC client that receives and processes data from an OPC Classic Server, and an OPC client that receives and processes data from an OPC UA Server.

For more information about OPC, see OPC Foundation.

OPC Classic Servers

OPC Classic Servers process data that conforms to the OPC Data Access (OPC DA) standards for which IBM Integration Bus Manufacturing Pack provides the following nodes.

Note: You can deploy the OPC Classic nodes on Windows only.

OPC UA Servers

OPC UA Servers process data that conforms to the OPC Unified Architecture (OPC UA) standard for which IBM Integration Bus Manufacturing Pack provides the following nodes:

The data that is emitted by the OPC UA nodes uses Coded Character Set ID (CCSID) 1208 (UTF-8). For more information about CCSID 1208, see Coded character set identifiers. If you are using WebSphere® MQ, you must set a compatible character set on the queue manager.
