Installing by using the Windows Launchpad

Use the Windows Launchpad to install the IBM® Integration Bus components and the prerequisite products.

Choose which IBM Integration Bus components to install. For more information, see Choosing what to install.

On Windows only, use the Launchpad for additional help with installing:

If you use the Launchpad, you can install everything that you need, and do not have to follow the procedures described in other chapters for installing the Integration Bus component, the IBM Integration Toolkit, and the IBM Integration Explorer.

The Launchpad works with both physical media (the DVD) and with electronic images that you have downloaded from IBM Passport Advantage®; however, the Launchpad depends on a file structure identical to that on the DVD, therefore you must not make any changes during or after download.

Note: Installing a 32-bit Broker image on a 64-bit Windows operating system - On some Windows platforms, the 32-bit installable image as well as the 64-bit installable image of the Integration Bus component is supported on the 64-bit hardware/Windows operating system. This combination is not true for all 64-bit versions of the Windows operating system. Please see the IBM Integration Bus Requirements Web site for support details. In particular, if you require to install the 32-bit Windows Integration Bus component on a 64-bit Windows operating system that supports this combination, you can use the Launchpad to do this, but be aware the Launchpad asks you to navigate to the program setup64.exe. In this specific instance, you can safely navigate to the setup32.exe program on the media and continue. Alternatively, from outside the Launchpad you can navigate to, and run, the setup32.exe installation program .

Multiple installations on a single computer

You can use the Launchpad to install only one instance of each component on a single computer. If you have selected and installed the broker or toolkit components, you cannot use the Launchpad to install these components again in a different location.

To install additional instances, run the appropriate installation wizard directly. For more information about completing these tasks, see Installing the Integration Bus component, Installing the IBM Integration Toolkit, and Installing IBM Integration Explorer.

The Launchpad also manages only one installation of WebSphere® MQ on a single computer. Refer to the relevant documentation for these products if you want to install multiple instances.

Installation summary

The following steps summarize the actions that you must take to complete the installation.
  1. Check the readme.html file for any updates to these installation instructions.
  2. Check that you have enough memory and disk space; refer to Memory and disk space requirements.
  3. Decide whether you want to install from a server, or install locally on each system. These choices are described in Accessing DVDs.
  4. Start the Windows Launchpad to install IBM Integration Bus and its prerequisite product; WebSphere MQ. For more information about using the Launchpad, see Starting the Windows Launchpad.
