Migrating from WebSphere Message Broker Version 6.1 to IBM Integration Bus Version 10.0

Perform the tasks to migrate from WebSphere® Message Broker Version 6.1 to IBM® Integration Bus Version 10.0.

Before you begin

The following migration guide is for Parallel Migration. Parallel Migration is the only recommended migration path from WebSphere Message Broker Version 6.1 to IBM Integration Bus Version 10.0.

Parallel Migration has the following advantages over In-Place migration:
Table 1. Advantages of Parallel Migration
Parallel Migration In-Place Migration
Brokers can be restructured or migrated to integration nodes in any order Brokers must be migrated to integration nodes immediately
You can make changes to your client configurations You cannot change your client configurations
You don't need to stop your existing brokers during migration You must stop your brokers and integration nodes while migrating
You can migrate to any hardware or computer You must migrate to the same hardware or computer
Code changes can be made in parallel with migration to take advantage of new features in the product You must complete the migration process before making changes to the deployment
You can choose which components to migrate in a controlled way All flows and resources must be migrated at the same time
You can easily rollback to previous versions, even specific flows Rolling back to previous versions is more complex, and you must rollback all flows
Must be used to migrate from 32 bit to 64 bit architectures for IBM Integration Bus Version 10.0 Does not support migration from 32 bit to 64 bit architectures

Parallel Migration

Use one of the following guides to migrate your deployment from WebSphere Message Broker Version 6.1 to IBM Integration Bus Version 10.0:

AIX platformLinux platformHP-UX platformUNIX platformSolaris platformFor AIX®, HP-UX, Linux®, Solaris, and UNIX systems, use this migration guide: Migrating from WebSphere Message Broker Version 6.1 to IBM Integration Bus Version 10.0 on Linux and UNIX systems

Windows platformFor Windows systems, use this migration guide: Migrating from WebSphere Message Broker Version 6.1 to IBM Integration Bus Version 10.0 on Windows systems

Note: IBM Integration Bus Version 10.0 does not include IBM Integration Explorer and so there is no migration process for WebSphere Message Broker Explorer. In IBM Integration Bus Version 10.0, all integration node administration is performed by using the web user interface, the IBM Integration API, or commands. For information about these administration options, see the following topics:

I still want to complete In-Place migration, and not Parallel Migration

The second migration strategy is In-Place migration. In-Place migration is not recommended due to the extensive number of steps, and all the prerequisite installations of WebSphere Message Broker and WebSphere MQ that are required. For example, the following list is the minimum number of installation steps needed for In-Place migration:
  1. WebSphere Message Broker Version 6.1 and WebSphere MQ Version 7.0.1
  2. WebSphere Message Broker Version 7.0.0.7 and WebSphere MQ Version 7.0.1
  3. WebSphere Message Broker Version 7.0.0.7 and WebSphere MQ Version 7.5
  4. IBM Integration Bus Version 10.0 and WebSphere MQ Version 7.5
  5. IBM Integration Bus Version 10.0 and WebSphere MQ Version 8
If you still want to use In-Place migration, then migrate to those versions of the products in order listed above. You can start by following the original migration information in the main WebSphere Message Broker Version 7 product documentation.
