Configuring your integration nodes to conform to your license

You must ensure that your integration nodes conform to the terms of your license.

About this task

For a full description of the integration node operation mode, see Operation modes.

Procedure

  • Upgrading from IBM® Integration Bus for Developers (Developer Edition)

If you installed the Developer Edition, and you have now purchased a fully supported version of the product such as the Advanced Edition or the Application Integration Suite, you can keep the components and all the associated resources that you have already created and configured. Before you install the purchased product, uninstall the Developer Edition. You can retain your existing integration nodes and workspace, and any Developer mode integration nodes remain in Developer mode by default. You can leave these integration nodes in Developer mode, or you can use the mqsimode command to change the operation mode to reflect the license that you have purchased.

To change the operation mode, complete the following steps.

    • If you intend to keep the integration nodes that you created with the Developer Edition for further development and unit test by your developers, change the operation mode of each integration node to advanced or applicationIntegrationSuite, as described in Changing the operation mode of your integration nodes.

Check the license agreement file to ensure that your configuration conforms to any restrictions for development and unit test. Development and unit test conditions are described in License requirements.

    • If you intend to use the integration nodes that you created with Developer Edition for production purposes, change the operation mode to conform to the license that you have purchased:
      • If you have purchased Remote Adapter Deployment, change the operation mode to adapter.
      • If you have purchased Standard Edition, change the operation mode to standard or scale.
      • If you have purchased Express Edition, change the operation mode to express.
      • If you have purchased a license for Scale mode, change the operation mode to scale.
      • If you have purchased the full IBM Integration Bus license, change the operation mode to advanced.
      • If you have purchased the Application Integration Suite license, change the operation mode to applicationIntegrationSuite.

If you reinstall IBM Integration Bus with the new physical or electronic packages for your purchased product, the default operation mode of all new integration nodes that you create has the value advanced. If you have purchased a full IBM Integration Bus license, you can leave the operation mode as advanced; in all other cases you must change the mode of your integration nodes to conform to the license that you have purchased (standard, adapter, scale, applicationIntegrationSuite, or express).

  • Remote Adapter Deployment, Standard Edition, Express Edition, or Scale mode

If you have purchased IBM Integration Bus Remote Adapter Deployment, IBM Integration Bus Standard Edition, IBM Integration Bus Express Edition, or a license for IBM Integration Bus Scale mode, and installed components from the full runtime package, read the following information.

    • All integration nodes that you have created (for example, by completing the verification procedures) have an operation mode set to advanced, which is the default setting for this installation. You can keep these integration nodes for further development and unit test, subject to any restrictions that apply for unit test environments, as indicated in your license. Development and unit test conditions are described in License requirements.
    • If you intend to use these integration nodes for production purposes, follow the instructions in Changing the operation mode of your integration nodes, to conform to the license that you have purchased.
    • When you create new integration nodes, you must set the operation mode to conform to the license that you have purchased, because by default the operation mode is set to the value advanced. You can use the -o parameter on the mqsicreatebroker command to override this default value by specifying an alternative value of adapter, standard, express, or scale. Alternatively, you can change the mode by using the mqsimode command for the created integration node. On z/OS® you can change the operation mode only by using the mqsimode command.
  • Full (unrestricted) license for IBM Integration Bus

If you have purchased a full (unrestricted) license and installed components from the full runtime package, all integration nodes that you create have an operation mode set to the default value of advanced, which is the correct setting for your license.

Whenever you create a new integration node, the operation mode is set to advanced, and you do not need to change this value.

You can continue to work with all the components and associated resources that you have already created. For example, after you have completed verification, you might keep the resources that you have created for further development and unit test (subject to any restrictions that apply for unit test environments, as indicated in your license). Development and unit test conditions are described in License requirements.

  • Application Integration Suite

If you have purchased an Application Integration Suite license and installed components from the full IBM Integration Bus runtime package, all integration nodes that you create have an operation mode set to the default value of advanced. Use the mqsimode command to change the operation mode to applicationIntegrationSuite, which is the correct setting for your license.
