Data assumptions and requirements

The Decision Tree procedure assumes that:

• The appropriate measurement level has been assigned to all analysis variables.
• For categorical (nominal, ordinal) dependent variables, value labels have been defined for all categories that should be included in the analysis.

We'll use the file tree_textdata.sav to illustrate the importance of both of these requirements. This data file reflects the default state of data read or entered before defining any attributes, such as measurement level or value labels. See the topic Sample Files for more information.
