Using a double-byte character set (DBCS)
If you want to display or enter double-byte data:
- You must work at a terminal that is configured to generate data in code page IBM-939 and follow the procedures for the terminal emulator being used, if any.
- Customize your locale and use the chcp command
to specify the ASCII and EBCDIC code pages you are using.
- For information on how to customize your locale and configure your setup files, see Changing the locale in the shell for the z/OS® shell, or Changing the locale in the shell for the tcsh shell.
When you are working with a double-byte character set, there are some restrictions. See Single-byte restrictions for more information.
