"Record Mapping" in z/OS MVS System Management Facilities (SMF) shows that each SMF type 89 record contains one or more usage sections. Each usage section contains a field representing the product owner. Although MVS™ generates SMF type 89 records when there is no product usage, the records do not have a usage section and are not passed to the usage exits.

Note: The usage exits get control before the report program analyzes the usage sections.
