Although you can use PDS or PDSE organization, using PDSE (DSNTYPE=LIBRARY) provides for best performance and avoids any fragmentation of the PDS space.

Use the FREE command after termination of any IPCS subcommand to free the allocated partitioned data set, for example:
FREE DDNAME(IPCSPDS)
Table 1 shows the attributes to use when allocating a partitioned data set for routing IPCS messages.

Attribute Print partitioned data set
DDNAME or FILE IPCSPDS
DISP NEW, SHR or OLD
DSORG PO
DSNTYPE LIBRARY or no
RECFM VBA
LRECL
  • Minimum value: 83
  • Maximum value: 255
  • Default value: the value specified in session parameters or 137
  • For the PDS, if LRECL does not satisfy the minimum and maximum conditions, IPCS cancels the PDS option.
BLKSIZE
  • Must be greater than or equal to LRECL + 4
  • If you specify none, IPCS uses 4 + (4 * LRECL) as BLKSIZE
  • For the PDS, if you specify a BLKSIZE less than LRECL + 4, IPCS cancels the PDS option.
SPACE You determine the space for the partitioned data sets.
