For hardware and software events, an application can register with BCPii to be notified when an event occurs for the targeted CPC or image. Under the covers, BCPii communicates the registration request with the support element (SE) of the targeted CPC or image if necessary and also registers the user-provided exit with the Event Notification Facility (ENF). When the event occurs on the targeted CPC or image, BCPii receives notification and signals the appropriate ENF68. The user's exit receives control with data unique for the event that just occurred. The data mapping for these different events can be found in the public interface files shipped with BCPii (HWICIC for the C programming language, Start of changeHWICIREX for the REXX programming language,End of change and HWICIASM for the assembler programming language). BCPii also provides a sample of an ENF event exit in SYS1.SAMPLIB (HWIXMCX1) that can be a good starting point for coding a BCPii ENF exit.
Note: BCPii user-defined image groups are a powerful way to issue commands to all members of a group simultaneously. Commands targeted to a user-defined image group will result in one image command response event being generated for each image in the image group. If event notification is desired for an image in an image group, register the image for the command response event to enable delivery of the event to the BCPii ENF exit.
