DEVSERV SMS

z/OS DFSMSdfp Storage Administration

You can use the DEVSERV SMS or DEVSERV S command to display the volume and storage group status of nn devices that SMS manages, starting with the specified device number.

Use the following syntax for the DEVSERV SMS command:

{DEVSERV} {SMS},ddd[,nn][,ONLINE][,L={a}]
{DS}      {S}           [,ON]    [   {cc}]
                                 [   {cca}]
                                 [   {name}]
                                 [   {name-a}]

Where:

ddd
Specifies the device number, in hexadecimal, for which the system is to display information.
nn
Specifies the decimal number (1 - 32) of devices for which the system is to display the information, in ascending order beginning with the device you specify. If you do not code nn, the system displays information about the one device you specify.
ONLINE/ON
Displays information about only those specified devices that are online. If you do not specify ONLINE or OFFLINE, the system displays information about both online and offline devices.
OFFLINE/OFF
Displays information about only those specified devices that are offline.
L=a|cc|cca|name|name-a
Specifies where the results of the inquiry are to be displayed: the display area (a), the console (cc), or both (cca). The name parameter is routed to the console referred to by "name" and the name-a parameter is routed to the console referred to by "name" and the screen referred to by "a".
Figure 1 shows the output of the DEVSERV S,430 command for the target device 430.
