When the volume retention method is VRSEL, a data set on the volume might have been open during vital record processing. DFSMSrmm retains the volume under the OPEN vital record specification or to a vital record specification that matches the data set name mask. The data set might have been open because a job was in progress or it was left open because the job failed.
