In an Apache Tomcat environment, you can increase the memory limit for returned XML data by setting the JAVA_OPTS environmental variable. For example:

export JAVA_OPTS="-DRMM_XML_MAX_SIZE=2000000" 

This must be done before Tomcat is started.
