A tape library is a named collection of tape volumes and tape drives. The mounting and demounting of tape cartridges in an automated tape library is performed by robotics in automatic mode and by operators in manual mode. The Tape Configuration Data Base (TCDB), an ICF catalog, contains an inventory of the tape libraries and volumes in the libraries.
