Using Storage Groups for Volume Pooling

z/OS DFSMS Implementing System-Managed Storage
SC23-6849-00

For a system-managed manual tape library, the operator can select from a common scratch pool or be directed by the tape management system to a specific scratch pool. The volume stays in this storage group while in private status. Pooling in a system-managed manual tape library can be managed by your tape management system. See z/OS DFSMSrmm Implementation and Customization Guide for information about how DFSMSrmm can use the storage group name as the pool name for both MTL and non-system managed volumes The volume stays in this storage group even after it is returned to scratch status.
