Because catalogs are essential system data sets, it is important that you maintain backup copies. The more recent and accurate a backup copy, the less impact a catalog outage will have on your installation. Besides the backup and recovery of BCSs, you should also develop a strategy for backing up VVDSs, VTOCs, and VTOC indexes. This chapter considers the backup and recovery of BCSs and VVDSs,
