z/OS Communications Server: IP Messages Volume 1 (EZA)
SC27-3654-00

Client SBSENDEOL must be CRLF for stream mode restart of put

Explanation

This message is displayed when the SRESTART PUT subcommand is issued while SBSENDEOL is not set to CRLF. The client cannot reliably restart a PUT operation unless the SBSENDEOL setting was CRLF during the interrupted PUT or APPEND subcommand. Therefore, SRESTART PUT is disabled for the remainder of this FTP login session. See the information about the SBSENDEOL statement in the z/OS Communications Server: IP Configuration Reference for more information about SBSENDEOL settings.

System action

The FTP client stops processing the SRESTART PUT subcommand.

Operator response

The file transfer must be started again from the beginning. If you continue to experience this error, report the error to the system programmer.

System programmer response

Most servers do not require an SBSENDEOL setting other than the default, CRLF. If SBSENDEOL is coded as a different value in FTP.DATA or you use the LOCSITE subcommand to set the value to anything other than CRLF, users will not be able to issue an SRESTART PUT command to restart a file transfer in stream mode. If your users require the alternate SBSENDEOL value for only certain servers, specify SBSENDEOL CRLF in the client FTP.DATA data set and instruct the users to issue the LOCSITE SBSENDEOL subcommand only after logging in to those servers to allow the users to restart outbound stream mode file transfers to the servers that do not require the alternate SBSENDEOL value.

Consider whether block or compressed mode file transfers would be appropriate for your installation. Block and compressed mode transfers can be restarted if you initiated checkpointing before the file transfer. See the information about restarting a failed data transfer in z/OS Communications Server: IP User's Guide and Commands.
