How to transmit a configuration package

Transmitting a configuration package means building a subset IODF from the objects contained in the package and sending it to the specified target system.

To transmit a configuration package, open the configuration with the associated production IODF for which the package is defined. In the Configuration Packages dialog, select the package and press the Transmit… button to display the Transmit Configuration Package dialog.

In the dialog shown in Figure 1, you can specify and/or adapt job control statements which are used to generate the batch job for transmitting the package to the target system. This job runs on the transmitting system, where the package is defined. Changes to the statements are retained across sessions.

Specify the job card and other job control statements for the batch job. Adjust the job name, the class parameters, the user ID to be notified, and the region size to your needs.

Also, the data in the entry fields above the specified JCL is used to generate the batch job:

Use the Volume field to specify where to save the temporary IODFs before transmitting them to the target system (required on non-SMS managed systems). This field is only applicable when sending to an unattended MVS system. Otherwise it is ignored. In the Space field, HCM proposes an estimated average size for IODF space allocation. You can modify this value.

The target IODF is built on the z/VM user's A-disk by:

The used work files are removed from the A-disk after a successful transmission. If any of the above steps fails, the work files remain on the A-disk for failure diagnostic and must be manually deleted before a new package transmission with the same IODF file name can be performed.
