The HCMERR.LOG PC file

HCM incorporates another aid for problem determination. If a severe or unexpected error or a controlled exit occurs, HCM saves its current processing environment in a text file called HCMERR.LOG.

This file is written by default to the same directory from which the HCM executable was launched. However, you can determine another than the default directory. This is useful if you have HCM installed in a LAN environment that has read access only. To keep the HCMERR.LOG on your local resource, you have to specify a directory in your EEQHCM.INI file. HCM uses the EEQHCM.INI file to store information and defaults across HCM sessions. It is located in the Windows system directory. Enter a line like the following into the EEQHCM.INI file in the [HCM] section:
ERRLOGDIR=C:\HCMLOG

The file is initially created by HCM when the first severe error or a controlled exit occurs. You can truncate or delete the file. If you do not delete the file, the data of the processing environment is appended for each such severe error or controlled exit.

If you want to report a problem to IBM, check whether HCM has written the file. If the file exists, supply the file to IBM.
