Using the utility to copy an I/O subsystem

With this utility you can also copy an existing I/O subsystem with its topology. That is, the utility duplicates the quantity and attributes of contained control units, the quantity and attributes of strings (with devices), and the connections between contained objects.

The utility guides you through the following steps:

  1. Set Controller Attributes and Subsystem Type: Select an existing controller.

To create a valid new I/O subsystem, you must change the CU numbers (which must be unique in a valid configuration). Also, you can change other I/O subsystem attributes (like a controller's serial number or subsystem identifier (SSID), a string's label and I/O device IDs). The utility supports you in globally changing CU numbers and I/O device IDs via specification of a new first CU number and I/O device ID. All other CU numbers and I/O device IDs are changed according to the original topology (That means, that the original gaps between the values will remain).

  2. Add control units: Accept or change the generated new control unit numbers. The utility may issue a message on the current page if you must change possibly invalid control unit numbers before continuing.
  3. The rest of the steps of the copy functionality are similar to steps 3 through 6 from the create functionality. However, they provide only information about the topology that the copied I/O subsystem will have, and no updates are possible.
