Assigning new connections

New physical connections are only established in the Repeat scenario. You achieve this via the Assign Switch Ports and Assign Controller Interfaces wizard pages. Existing physical connections are only copied in the Upgrade scenario, but no new physical connection is assigned in such a scenario. Also, any logical connections are not considered in this section which might use the physical connection that is assigned. Emphasis is on CTC connections and CF connections.

As only new physical connections are established in this scenario, and as no existing physical connections are copied, the link (physical connection between the target CHPID and its connection targets) will not contain any patchport , general box port, or cable. If required, you must define all such physical configuration objects manually to the link after the copy operation succeeded.

As mentioned above , there are two wizard pages which help you establish the new physical connections for the target CHPIDs. The Assign Switch Ports page only lists those target CHPIDs for which the corresponding source CHPID is connected to a switch port. For all shown target CHPIDs, you can select a switch port as connection target in order to establish a complete physical path from the target CHPID onto controllers.

On the Assign Controller Interfaces wizard page, you can assign controller adapter interfaces to target CHPIDs. Only those target CHPIDs are listed on this wizard page for which the corresponding source CHPID is connected to a controller interface. The target CHPID must be connected to the same controller as the corresponding source CHPID. If not enough labelled controller adapter interfaces are available on a controller, HCM will provide unlabeled controller adapters and unlabeled controller adapter interfaces which are indicated by ’INT’. You can label those adapters and their interfaces yourself afterwards, see Editing labels of adapters and interfaces.

Several CHPID types are usually connected to specific control unit types. Some CHPID <---> controller connections cannot be selected on the Assign Controller Interfaces page, but are automatically established by HCM. Connections to which this applies involve a controller with either an OSA type control unit, an IQD control unit or an FCP control unit.

When connecting a mapped target CHPID to a controller interface, the interface type of the controller interface may differ from the interface type to which the source CHPID is connected. In such a case, HCM adds a generic converter to the configuration or removes the previously needed converter.

Note that a mapped target CHPID will be neither shown in the Assign Switch Ports page nor in the Assign Controller Interfaces page and therefore will have no physical connection at all in the following cases:

If , however, a CHPID is connected to a crossbar switch, and furthermore is connected to either a switch port or a controller adapter interface, then this CHPID is shown on either the Assign Switch Ports page or on the Assign Controller Interfaces page. The logical connection is copied and the physical connection will be established between the CHPID and the selected switch port or controller adapter interface.
