Return codes and reason codes

z/OS UNIX System Services Planning
GA32-0884-00

If a z/OS system service fails, a failing return code and reason code is sent. Reason codes are unique and should supply enough information to debug the problem. You can set a slip trap on a specific reason code to gather further diagnostic data. For information about setting the slip trap, see the section on reason codes listed by value in z/OS UNIX System Services Messages and Codes.
