DFSMShsm releases any allocated unused space only for a single-stripe
sequential extended-format data set; allocated unused space will not
be released for a multiple-stripe sequential extended-format data
set.
Extent reduction will not be performed on either single-stripe
or multiple-stripe sequential extended-format data sets.
If a sequential extended-format data set is small enough and meets
all criteria—regardless of whether it is single-stripe or multiple-stripe—it
can be migrated to a small-data-set-packing (SDSP) data set.
DFSMShsm space management for sequential extended-format data sets
will not occur for any of the following reasons:
- A sequential extended-format data set is not migrated if it is
larger than the available free space on one DASD migration volume.
Ensure that there is a DASD migration volume large enough to fit the
entire data set or else migrate it directly to an ML2 tape volume
or volumes.
- A multistripe sequential extended-format data set is not migrated
if SETSYS USERDATASETSERIALIZATION is not specified for DFSMShsm.
- A multistripe sequential extended-format data set is not migrated
if it is protected by a RACF® discrete
profile.
