Installing and uninstalling the Sametime web audio-visual plug-in automatically from a browser

You can install the IBM® Sametime® web audio-visual plug-in automatically when prompted to do so from a Meeting Room or Sametime Chat window.

Procedure

  1. In the browser, unblock popups for the IBM Sametime Meeting URL, if applicable. If the plug-in was already installed on the client computer, empty the browser's cache to ensure a successful upgrade.
  2. On the operating system, verify that the deployment's Sametime Meeting Server and Sametime Proxy Server hosts (for example: 10.10.10.10xyz.abc.com) are registered in the client workstation's DNS.

    If not, make an entry for both the hosts in the etc\hosts file, stored in the %WINDIR%S\system32\drivers\etc\hosts directory. On the Macintosh, add the host name and IP address to the /etc/hosts file using a super user account.

  3. When they are prompted to install the plug-in from a Meeting Room or Sametime Chat window, they start the process by clicking Install now. They then follow the steps for their browsers.
    Internet Explorer
    1. If a warning appears about installing an add-on, click Install This Add-on.
    2. Click Install.
    After a short wait, the plug-in is installed and the page refreshes. In a Meeting Room, the participant list shows all users in the meeting room, and the green telephone icon is enabled so you can start or join the call.
    Mozilla Firefox
    1. If a warning appears about installing an add-on, click Install Now.
    2. After the plug-in is installed, click Restart Now.

      The page refreshes. In a Meeting Room, the participant list shows all users in the meeting room, and the green telephone icon is enabled so you can start or join the call.

    In the plug-in does not install, check if "Block pop-up windows" is selected in the browser options Content panel. The option must be cleared for the installation to work.
    Chrome
    1. If a warning appears about installing an add-on, click Continue.
    2. After the plug-in is installed, go to the Downloads folder and find the STWebPlayerWin.crx file.
    3. Copy this file to the chrome://extensions page and click Add when prompted to install the extension manually.
    Safari
    1. The plug-in downloads automatically.
    2. Run the downloaded STWebPlayer.dmg file to install the plug-in and reopen the Meeting Room or Sametime Chat window.

Uninstalling the plug-in

Follow the instructions that apply to your operating system and browser to uninstall the Sametime web audio-visual plug-in.

Internet Explorer on Microsoft Windows
  • Internet Explorer 7 and 8:

    Launch Internet Explorer and navigate to Tools > Manage Add-ons. Select Show All Add-ons. Double-click IBM Sametime WebPlayer and click Remove.

Mozilla Firefox on Microsoft Windows and Mac OSX
  1. Launch Firefox and navigate to Tools > Add-ons. Open the Extensions Tab and select IBM Sametime WebPlayer. Click Uninstall.
  2. Clean up folders that are no longer needed.

    Windows XP: Delete the folders %PROGRAMFILES%\IBM\Sametime WebPlayer\ and %APPDATA%\IBM\Sametime WebPlayer\.

    Windows 7:  Delete the folder %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\ IBM\Sametime WebPlayer\.

    Mac OSX: Delete the folder $HOME/Library/ApplicationSupport/IBM/Sametime WebPlayer/.
