Installing WebSphere Portal on AIX® for the horizontal cluster nodes

Install IBM® WebSphere® Portal on your additional cluster nodes to create a highly available and scalable environment. On additional nodes, you only need to install the WebSphere Portal product binary files. The WebSphere Portal application server and applications are added after the node is federated and a new cluster member is created.

Review the WebSphere Portal detailed system requirements for your operating system and ensure that all hardware and software matches the minimum product level before you install WebSphere Portal.

Choose one of the following installation methods to install IBM WebSphere Portal:

  • Additional node: Installing with the Installation Manager on AIX
    You can use the IBM Installation Manager to help you install IBM WebSphere Portal and IBM WebSphere Application Server on your additional nodes. The IBM Installation Manager gathers essential information, such as host name and node, and then performs the installation. The main difference when installing your additional nodes, select the Product binaries only option when selecting the type of installation.
  • Additional node: Installing with the response file on AIX
    First install IBM Installation Manager. Then use a response file to install IBM WebSphere Portal and IBM WebSphere Application Server on your additional nodes. The main difference when installing your additional nodes, you must specify the product binary installation parameter. Record a response file on the same operating system you plan for the installation. If you have multiple operating systems, you must record a response file for each operating system.
