Configuration Wizard overview

The configuration wizard helps you create custom scripts with instructions, called workflows. Workflows are used to configure different aspects of IBM® WebSphere® Portal.

Key points to remember about the configuration wizard:

  • Installed with WebSphere Portal, but not running by default. You must start the configuration wizard from server1. You can stop and start WebSphere_Portal as needed for your configuration and continue accessing the configuration wizard from server1.
  • Uses the cw_profile to allow you to create scripts for your configuration for any remote system.
  • Accessed from the WebSphere Integrated Solutions Console.
  • Uses information that you provide to customize a workflow in a four-step process:
    • Set conditions: Answer questions about your environment, configuration goals, and preferences to filter workflow steps.
    • Customize the workflow: Enter parameter and property values for your configuration. See default values and examples without opening property files.
    • Check values: The configuration wizard checks your parameter values to determine if they are OK. After the parameter values are validated by the configuration wizard, you can go to the next step and create custom scripts and help.
    • Create workflow: When you create a workflow, you create scripts, instructions, and configuration helper files with updated property values as needed. Use the instruction file to guide you in running scripts in combination with other configuring steps.
  • In clustered environments, you can use the configuration wizard from the primary node. You can use the scripts created by the configuration wizard when customizing a workflow to other nodes from the primary node. You do not need to deploy the configuration wizard to the deployment manager.
  • Allows you to check log files or identify errors at a quick glance from the Home page.
  • Provides a web interface, as an alternative to customizing a workflow, to run ConfigEngine tasks.
Note: The configuration wizard is not supported on z/OS®.
