IBM Tivoli Storage Manager, Version 7.1

Enablelanfree

The enablelanfree option specifies whether to enable an available LAN-free path to a storage area network (SAN) attached storage device.

A LAN-free path allows backup, restore, archive, and retrieve processing between the Tivoli® Storage Manager client and the SAN-attached storage device.

AIX operating systems HP-UX operating systems Linux operating systems Oracle Solaris operating systems To support LAN-free data movement you must install and configure the Tivoli Storage Manager Managed System for SAN Storage Agent on the client workstation. For more information, refer to the Tivoli Storage Manager Managed System for SAN Storage Agent publications.

Windows operating systems To support LAN-free data movement you must install and configure the Tivoli Storage Manager Managed System for SAN Storage Agent on the client workstation. For more information, refer to IBM® Tivoli Storage Manager for Windows Storage Agent User's Guide.

Note:
  1. If you place the enablelanfree option in the client option file (dsm.opt), but zero (0) bytes were transferred through the SAN during an operation, ensure that you bind the data to a LAN-free enabled management class.
  2. To restore backup sets in a SAN environment, see for more information.
  3. When a LAN-free path is enabled, the SAN Storage Agent settings override the client tcpserveraddress, tcpport, and ssl options. This override action occurs to ensure that both the client and the Storage Agent use the same server communication options.
