Considerations for migrating to a different operating system or from 32-bit to 64-bit

To migrate to a computer with a different operating system (for example, from Windows to Linux), or to migrate from a 32-bit computer to a 64-bit computer, you must perform more migration steps.

To migrate to a computer with a different operating system, you must install IBM® Business Process Manager V8.5.6 on a third computer with the same operating system as the migration source computer (for example, Windows if you are migrating from Windows to Linux). Then, run the BPMCreateRemoteMigrationUtilities command to create a compressed file that you can use on the migration source computer. Copy the file to the source computer.

Note:
  • You must install IBM Business Process Manager on an operating system version that V8.5.6 supports. If your source system is on an operating system version that is not supported, use a supported newer version of that operating system for the third computer mentioned in the preceding paragraph.
  • If V8.5.6 does not support your source operating system type, you cannot use the business data migration method. However, you can still do artifact migration. For more details, see Migrating artifacts to V8.5.6.

To migrate from a 32-bit system, run the BPMCreateRemoteMigrationUtilities command on your 64-bit IBM Business Process Manager V8.5.6 system although you must use the command with the 32bit parameter when you are creating the files for the source system. V8.5.6 supports 64-bit platforms only.
