Considerations for migrating to a different operating system

To migrate to a computer with a different operating system (for example, from Windows to Linux), you must perform more migration steps.

You cannot package the migration utilities on the target computer and then run them on the source computer because a compressed file created on Windows 64-bit, for example, does not work on a computer with a Windows 32-bit operating system, or a Linux or AIX operating system.

To migrate to a computer with a different operating system, you must install the new version of IBM® Business Process Manager on a third computer with the same operating system and bit type as the migration source computer (for example, Windows if you are migrating from Windows to Linux). Then, run the BPMCreateRemoteMigrationUtilities command to create a compressed file that you can use on the migration source computer. Copy the file to the source computer.

If the source environment operating system (such as Windows 2003) is not supported in IBM Business Process Manager V8.5, you must install the new version of IBM Business Process Manager on a third computer with a Windows operating system that is supported on IBM Business Process Manager V8.5 and that has the same bit type as the migration source computer.
